In 2008 Whole Foods Market received a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, Gold Status. Gold is the second highest rating that can be awarded. They are the first LEED certified store in the Midwest Region and the highest rated store in their company. They are also the first grocery store in Chicago to receive this prestigious recognition.
